Why Are We Always In A Hurry?

30
September

Tomorrow’s Sunday again? That fast?

Yes, days are faster now, and one thing’s for sure, for all we know, in a matter of months, it’s going to be summer again. It feels more like life is in fast forward …

Well, some people are just in a hurry. I’m reading now of people planning already for their summer vacation next year. Yesterday, my daughter and I were in a big store and the place was already filled with Christmas decorations! My daughter, seeing everything, made a comment I will never forget. She said: “grabe pod! Wala pa gani Halloween!” (How should I state this in English? lol) (How can that be? Halloween’s not even here yet!)

Well, Filipinos don’t really celebrate Halloween, so most people go directly to the next best celebration, and that’s Christmas. And that does not end there. Have you noticed that as early as January, right after the three kings (January 6), immediately after the Christmas decorations are removed from Malls and big stores, what comes up next are the big hearts and cupids? As early as January, Valentines is already celebrated.

So what then? Some of you may be saying there’s really nothing wrong about all these. My response would be yes! There’s nothing wrong with celebrations and getting excited about them. However, in all these hullabaloos, a lot of people take for granted one very crucial aspect of living: forgetting to live for the moment! A lot of people sleep, work, eat, and function – for the tomorrow, forgetting or missing what is happening today. It is so much similar to “seeing the forest but not the trees”.

This is sad, because I believe this neglect is unintentional – perhaps people are just eaten up by so much concerns they cease to live the moment. Let me ask this question: when was the last time you paused and actually looked closely at your special someone, your spouse or partner, and noticed perchance his or her graying hair? When was the last time you asked your youngest child (regardless of his or her age) to sit close to you or hug you or even sit on your lap? When was the last time you held your daughter and told her how much she means to you, or how much her happiness and safety means to you?

Think about these things and ask yourselves if you’re still here, enjoying the moment, and not in the so-distant-future you’re not even sure will come …

What is most important to you? Who are most important to you?

Maybe its time to stop whatever it is you’re doing right now, and look around, and if someone’s with you, look closely and see with new eyes … look at that person and allow yourself to see something you’ve never seen before.  Maybe you can just say a word or two, or give that person a hug … something that will make a difference.

Live the moment … live the “now”! This is what’s most important, for who knows what tomorrow brings?

Why Do You Love Christmas?

30
September

We all love Christmas! But why? For what reason?

Some love Christmas so much that the moment the “ber” months come, they begin to count down the days …

Many love Christmas because of the merry-making that comes with its celebration;

It’s also the time when Christmas bonuses are given;

Stores offer huge discounts on Christmas to entice people to shop;

Surprisingly, another reason why people love Christmas is because the season brings out the best in all of us… Have you thought about this lately?

Isn’t it true that people (including you and me) are more generous on Christmas time? Most of us, when the “ber” months come, begin to think about what gifts to give … and of course, because we will always have that child in us, undeniably we also think about what gifts we will receive from our love ones (as adults, kung meron, good! If wala, okay pa rin, we understand).

With the Christmas season approaching, we think about our families and friends, and even our enemies – fondly and kindly. This is primarily the reason why Christmas has always been, and will always be, the best time to bond together as families and friends;

Christmas is the season when most of what we see and feel are the good, the nice, and the beautiful …in things, in places, in our circumstances, and most importantly, in people;

Why is this so?

The answer is simple: because Christmas brings in itself a wonderful spirit. Think about the word CHRISTMAS …

To know the spirit that it brings, just drop the last syllable of the word Christmas, and you’ll get Christ.

Yes, Christmas is all about Christ Jesus! For after all, it’s His birthday we celebrate on this wonderful day we call Christmas!

If only we can make everyday a Christmas Day … the world would be a better place for all of us …

Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas Shopping Everyone!

9
September

For many Filipinos, Christmas is almost here! I’m sure foreigners visiting our country and hearing our radio stations play Christmas music this early will find it amusing; but hey! Filipinos are nonetheless very proud that we’re the only nation in this whole world who celebrates Christmas as early as September. As many Filipinos would say “ Basta “ber” na gani ang ending sa month, Christmas na gyod”!

So, in the spirit of early Christmas preparation, here are some valuable tips on how to avoid overspending this Christmas.

Christmas Shopping

Always Pay Using Cash

Do you know that literally seeing money leave the wallet causes a buyer or shopper to be aware of what they are buying? Yes! So when doing your shopping, pay in cash!

Do You Know About the 1.5 % Rule?

It’s very simple: It admonishes the buyer not to spend more than 1.5 % of his or her total gross income on holiday shopping. Moreover, if you are in debt, reduce your spending to less than 1% of your total gross income.

Make a Christmas Shopping List, and Stick to it!

This is very self explanatory. Do not buy what is not on the list!

Sticking to your list when Christmas shopping also saves you time and money, plus it narrows your options. Then, the list should also include a price range for each item. For example, if you’re going to buy a pair of shoes for your husband or son, write how much your budget is for the shoes, for example, 1,500 – 2,000 only. Lastly, include an option B or C. For instance, you have not found a sweater that you like for your daughter; you should have option B – a handbag; or option C – a fashion wristwatch.

What If You Are An Impulse Buyer?

That can be a very big challenge. If you think you will not be able to control yourself, better shop online. Stay away from stores and malls, especially those offering sales discounts.

Again, spend wisely this Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!
