Happiness: Is There a Formula for It?

5
October

An eBook entitled “Happiness Formulas” summarizes some of the main findings in a recent research about subjective well-being:

  • Being happy is a choice people make right here and now, by living joyfully. It is not a place to reach in the future.
  • There are ways to measure subjective well-being and thinking about what such formulas mean for us is even more important than the numbers we get out of them;
  • We get happier by making other people happier
  • There are several “fringe” benefits to living joyfully.

For example:

  • Happier people are more sociable, energetic, more caring, and cooperative;
  • They are better liked by others;
  • They are more likely to get married and stay married;
  • They have wider social networks and receive support from friends;
  • They show more flexibility and creativity in their thinking;
  • They are more productive at work;
  • They are recognized as better leaders and negotiators, and so earn accordingly;
  • They are more tenacious when times are not pleasant;
  • They have stronger immune systems;
  • They are healthier both physically and mentally, and
  • They live longer.

“Morning People”: Happier, Healthier, and Sexier

4
October

Well, some of you may disagree, but this is according to Dr. Joerg Huber of Roehampton University in London.

According to Dr Huber, in their research which studied 1,068 adults, they found out that morning people or those people who sleep early and wake up early are more active and enthusiastic, are happier, and are healthier or fit as compared to night people.

This is also supported by another study done in theUnited States which found that Americans who sleep late are more prone to eating unhealthy food (such as food in fast-food chains). Night people also sleep late and stay in bed late, which is one cause for gaining excessive weight which leads to obesity.

So, are you a morning person? or a night person?

Happiness in Marriage

11
September

Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.

A good marriage is something that needs working on.

In the art of marriage, the little things are the BIG THINGS…

Like …

It is never being too old to hold hands …

It is remembering to say “I love you,” at least once a day.

It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.

It is at no time taking the other side for granted; the courtship shouldn’t end with the honeymoon, it should continue through all the years.

It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.

It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.

It is not expecting the husband to wear a halo or the wife to have wings like an angel.

It is not looking for perfection in each other.

It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding, and a sense of humor.

It is giving each other an atmosphere in which both can grow to become their best selves.

It is finding room for the things of the spirit, a common search for the good and the beautiful.

It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.

It is not marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.

It is discovering what marriage can be …

at its best …

As expressed in the words of Mark Twain

used in the tribute to his wife:

“Wherever she was, there was Eden.”
